Project Zomboid server guide

Add Workshop mods to a Project Zomboid server

Open the server's Mods page in HaruHost and add the mod's Workshop ID. HaruHost adds the mod IDs it knows for that item, keeps both lists in servertest.ini in load order, and the server downloads the mods at its next start. Players download them when they join.

Workshop ID and mod ID

Project Zomboid needs two things for each mod. The Workshop ID is the number in the mod's Steam Workshop address and goes in WorkshopItems; the mod ID is the name the mod gives itself and goes in Mods. Missing one is the usual reason a server mod doesn't load.

Step by step

  1. Open Server Config → Mods.
  2. Under Workshop Items, choose Add Workshop IDs and paste one or more IDs.
  3. Check Mod IDs. HaruHost adds the IDs it knows; add any others with Add Mod IDs.
  4. Put mods in order with Move up and Move down if one needs another loaded first.
  5. Restart the server.

From Discord

Admins can add and remove mods with the Discord bot, without opening the app.

The mods' own settings

Many mods add sandbox options. HaruHost shows them under each mod on the Sandbox Settings page; see mod settings.

Questions

Why does a mod fail with a version mismatch?

The mod updated on the Workshop after the server downloaded it. Restart the server so it downloads the new version; a scheduled restart keeps mods current.

Where do I find a mod's mod ID?

On its Workshop page, usually at the end of the description, as "Mod ID".
