Project Zomboid server guide

Give a Project Zomboid server more RAM

Open Server Config → Memory in HaruHost and set Maximum memory (MB), the most the server may use (-Xmx), and Minimum memory (MB), what it reserves at start (-Xms). Restart the server to apply it. This works the same on Windows and Linux.

Step by step

  1. Open Server Config → Memory.
  2. Set Maximum memory (MB), for example 8192 for 8 GB.
  3. Set Minimum memory (MB); it can't be more than the maximum.
  4. Restart the server.

How much

  • Memory grows with players, explored map, zombies and mods.
  • Leave memory for the system and anything else on the machine; the maximum is not the PC's whole memory.
  • Raise it if the server lags or stops with out-of-memory errors in its console.

Where it is stored

The values are the -Xms and -Xmx flags in the server's start file. HaruHost changes only those two values, and the start file stays editable on the Files tab.

Questions

Can I set memory in gigabytes?

The page takes megabytes, at least 512. 1 GB is 1024 MB.
