HaruHost

Automation

Your game servers look after themselves.

Restart every night with a warning to players, update when the game releases an update, start servers again after a crash or a reboot, and back up while you sleep. Pick a trigger, add up to 20 steps and choose servers. HaruHost runs the automation on the machine itself and records every step of every run.

How an automation works

One automation is one routine: something happens, and HaruHost does the steps you chose, in order, on the servers you chose.

  1. 1

    When: one trigger

A schedule, an interval, a crash, HaruHost starting, a player joining or leaving, or a new release of the game.

  2. 2

    What: up to 20 steps

Messages, waits, saves, backups, restarts, updates, commands and Discord posts, run one after another.

  3. 3

    Where: your servers

One server or many on the same machine, or none for a routine that only posts to Discord or backs up folders. Make as many automations as you need, and find a server's own from its page.

7 triggers

Each automation starts from one of these. Make several automations to cover several situations.

Scheduled

At set times every day, on the weekdays you pick (weekdays or weekends in one click) or on days of the month, including the last one. Add several times a day, in your own time zone or the machine's, and see when it runs next.

Restart every night at 4:00, with a warning first.

Server update available

Runs once for each new release of the game, for every chosen server that needs it. If HaruHost was offline when the release came out, it runs as soon as HaruHost is back.

Warn players, back up and install the update while you sleep.

Crash recovery

Runs when a server stops unexpectedly and stays offline for as long as you choose, 30 seconds by default. Stopping, restarting or updating a server in HaruHost never counts as a crash.

Start the server again and tell your Discord what happened.

HaruHost starts

Runs once each time HaruHost starts on the machine. The background service starts with the machine, so this brings your servers back after a reboot or a power cut.

Start every server after the machine restarts.

Interval

Every few minutes, hours or days, counted by a server's running or online time, or by how long HaruHost has been running. Run it once, every time, or a set number of times.

Save and back up every 6 hours a server is online.

Player Joined

Runs for the server a player joins, on the 13 games where HaruHost records player sessions. Messages can name the player and the server.

Welcome players in game and post who joined to Discord.

Player Left

Runs for the server a player leaves, with the same player details.

Post to Discord when someone logs off.

Try it now

Not sure an automation does what you want? Trigger now runs it straight away, even while it is paused, and the run history shows what each step did.

12 steps

Steps run in order. Wait, Discord Message and Device Backup run once per run; the others run on each chosen server.

Run the server

Start server if stoppedStarts the server unless it is already running, starting or updating.
RestartRestarts the server.
UpdateInstalls the game's latest release and starts the server again if it was running.
Shutdown serverSaves and shuts the server down, like the Shutdown button, and waits until it has stopped.
Stop serverStops the server, like the Stop button, and waits until it has stopped.

Talk to the game

Server MessageShows a message to everyone in game, such as a restart warning. 16 games, listed below.
Server CommandSends a command to the game's admin console, such as ARK's SaveWorld or DestroyWildDinos.
SaveSaves the world, on games that save on command.

Back up

Server BackupBacks the server up with the backup profile you choose, and finishes before the next step starts.
Device BackupBacks up any folder on the machine, such as mods or configs, once per run.

Wait and tell Discord

WaitPauses for up to 24 hours, for example between a warning and the restart.
Discord MessagePosts to the Discord channel you choose, once per run.

Warn players in game

Server messages reach everyone in game on 16 games. Messages, commands and Discord posts from a player trigger can name the player and the server.

Automations to set up first

The routines server owners otherwise do by hand, at the worst times. Each one takes a minute to build.

Every run, step by step.

You never have to guess whether last night's restart happened. Each automation shows its last run, and the run history shows every run on the machine.

  • A timeline per run
When it started, what triggered it, and when each step finished.
  • A result for every server
See which server a step succeeded or failed on, copy the error, and show only the runs that failed.
  • In the Logs too
Starts, updates and backups an automation did carry its name in the device and server Logs, with a link to the run.

Runs on your machine, day and night

Automations run inside HaruHost on the machine that hosts the servers, not in your browser. Close the web panel and they keep going; with the background service on a VPS or a home server, they run around the clock with nothing else open.

Next to your servers

The background service starts with the machine on Windows and Linux, and so do your automations.

Edit from anywhere

Build and change automations in the web panel or the desktop app, on any of your machines, from your phone too.

Catches up on updates

If HaruHost was offline when the game released an update, the update automation runs as soon as HaruHost is back.

Better than scripts and scheduled tasks

Scheduled tasks and scripts can restart a process. They don't know the game, your players or your Discord, and they don't tell you when something goes wrong.

Nothing to write

Pick steps from a list and fill in a message or a time. No scripts to write, host or fix after an update.

Knows the game

Warn players in game, save the world before a restart and make backups the game can be restored from.

Knows when the game updates

HaruHost notices each new release and runs your update routine once for it, for every server that needs it.

Knows a crash from a stop

Crash recovery runs only when a server stops unexpectedly, never when you stop or restart it in HaruHost.

Keeps your community posted

Tell your Discord before a restart, after an update or when a server crashed, from the same routine.

Shows what happened

Every run has a step-by-step history with a result per server, so a failed step never goes unnoticed.

Automation questions

What can I automate on a game server?

Restarts, updates, saves, backups, starting and stopping servers, console commands, messages to players and Discord messages. Each automation has one trigger (a schedule, an interval, a crash, HaruHost starting, a player joining or leaving, or a game update) and up to 20 steps, for one server or many on the same machine.

Do automations run when my browser is closed?

Yes. Automations run in HaruHost on the machine that hosts the servers, not in your browser. With the background service, which starts with the machine, they run around the clock on a VPS or home server with nothing else open. While the machine or HaruHost is off nothing runs: a scheduled time it missed is not run later, but a game update released meanwhile is caught up as soon as HaruHost starts.

How do I warn players before a restart?

Put a Server Message step and a Wait step before the Restart step, for example "Restarting in 5 minutes" and 5 minutes. Messages reach players in game on 16 games: 7 Days to Die, ARK: Survival Ascended, ARK: Survival Evolved, Avorion, DayZ, Empyrion: Galactic Survival, Hytale, Minecraft: Bedrock Edition, Minecraft: Java Edition, Necesse, Palworld, Project Zomboid, Rust, Satisfactory, Soulmask and V Rising.

Can my servers update automatically when the game updates?

Yes. The Server update available trigger runs once for each new release, for every chosen server that needs it, and an Update step installs it. Put a message, a wait and a Server Backup before it, so players are warned and the world is backed up first.

Can servers start again after a reboot or a crash?

Yes. An automation with the HaruHost starts trigger and a Start server if stopped step brings your servers back after the machine restarts, and Crash recovery starts a server again when it stops unexpectedly.

How many automations can I have?

As many as you need on each machine, each with up to 20 steps. Automations come with every paid plan.

Can I test an automation?

Yes. Trigger now runs it straight away, even while it is paused, and the run history shows what each step did on each server.
