Project Zomboid server settings

HaruHost's Server Config page reads the server's own files: Server Settings is servertest.ini, Sandbox Settings is servertest_SandboxVars.lua. Each setting shows the range, default and description the game writes next to it, and saving changes only the values you edit, so settings changed in game stay.

The pages

  • Server Settings: name, passwords, max players, PvP, safehouses, factions, chat, voice, backups and the rest of servertest.ini.
  • Mods: Workshop items and mod IDs.
  • Network Settings and Memory.
  • Sandbox Settings: zombies, loot, time, utilities, vehicles, skills and your mods' options.
  • Spawn Points and Spawn Regions.
  • Files tab: every file as text.

Finding a setting

Settings are named as the game writes them, with spaces, so ZombieRespawn shows as Zombie Respawn. Search by either form. Sandbox sub-tables such as ZombieLore and ZombieConfig are their own sections.

While the server runs

Project Zomboid rewrites its files while it runs. Save with Save for next start and HaruHost applies your change when the server next starts, keeping what changed in game meanwhile. The Files tab is for a stopped server.

Questions

Why do my servertest.ini changes get reset?

Edits made while the server runs are overwritten when the game saves its file. With HaruHost, save in Server Settings and the change is applied at the next start instead.

Where are the files?

In the Zomboid folder's Server folder, named after the server, such as servertest.ini. The Files tab shows them.
