Build 42 or Build 41 on a Project Zomboid server

Pick the server's Steam branch when you create it in HaruHost, or change it later with Change branch on the Details tab and press Update. Players need the same build as the server, and a Build 41 world doesn't carry over to Build 42.

Change the branch

  1. Make a backup of the world.
  2. On the server's Details tab, choose Change branch and pick the branch.
  3. Press Update. Changing the branch only sets the target; the update downloads it.

What changes between builds

  • Players have to switch their game to the same branch in Steam to join.
  • Start a new world for Build 42; Build 41 saves are not made for it.
  • Mods have to support the build. Check each mod's Workshop page.

What needs Build 42

HaruHost reads survivors' skills and restores characters from Build 42 saves. Playtime, roles, chat and the settings pages work on both.

Questions

Why can't my friends join after I changed the branch?

Their game is on another build. In Steam, open Project Zomboid's properties, choose the same branch under Betas and let it update.
