ARK: Survival Evolved server memory and performance

A new map with no players uses about 5 GB of memory, so plan more for players, mods and a bigger world. Each map is a server of its own: add up the maps you will run on one machine and leave room to grow. The Launch Arguments card has the performance settings.

Size the machine

  • Add up the maps you will run on the machine, and leave room for growth, mods and the system.
  • One HaruHost plan covers servers on several machines, so maps can be spread out.
  • On a VPS, see choosing a VPS.

Settings that help

  • Enable Multithreaded Performance, on by default, and Worker Threads on the Launch Arguments card; 0 picks the number for you.
  • A nightly scheduled restart.
  • Fewer wild creatures with Dino Count Multiplier, and Auto Destroy Old Structures so abandoned bases are cleared.

Saves

ARK pauses briefly when it saves a big world. Set how often with AutoSavePeriodMinutes in the GameUserSettings.ini card.

Questions

How much RAM does an ARK: Survival Evolved server need?

About 5 GB for a new map with no players, and more as players, mods and the world grow. Size the machine for every map it runs.

Can I run several maps on one machine?

Yes, if it has the memory for all of them. HaruHost gives each server its own ports.
