Install HaruHost
On Ubuntu (x86-64), run:
curl -fsSL https://haruhost.com/install.sh | sudo bash
HaruHost installs as a service. Sign in with the QR code it shows in your SSH session, then open the web panel from any browser.
What HaruHost does for you
- Wine: nothing to install or configure. HaruHost runs the Windows server on Linux for you.
- Docker: on Ubuntu, HaruHost installs and sets up Docker with one click when you create your first server.
- SteamCMD: not needed. HaruHost downloads the server and everything it needs to run.
- systemd and screen: not needed. HaruHost runs as a service and keeps the server running without an open SSH session.
- Settings: Configuration Files opens ServerHostSettings.json and ServerGameSettings.json in the browser, with every host and gameplay setting.
- Getting friends in: with the Tunnel, friends find the server in V Rising's server list by its Lobby Name, or join with the invite code.
Step by step
- Run the install command and sign in.
- In the web panel, choose Add → New game server, pick your Linux server, then V Rising.
- On the Connection step, choose Tunnel, or Ports to use the server's own address.
- Create the server. If Docker isn't installed yet, HaruHost asks first; press Install, then Create Server.
- Open Configuration Files and set the server name and password in ServerHostSettings.json.
- Start the server and send friends the invite code.
Open the ports
With Ports, open the server's game and query ports for UDP in your VPS provider's firewall. With the Tunnel, nothing needs to be opened.
What runs on Windows only
Auto Config, Thunderstore mods, the chat history, Discord Chat, playtime and gear levels, roles and live bans need a Windows server. On Linux, HaruHost lists who is online by name and adds or removes bans while the server is stopped. Backups, automations, the RCON console and the Discord bot work on both.
Questions
Can a V Rising dedicated server run on Linux?
Yes. There is no Linux build of the server, and HaruHost runs the Windows server on Linux for you, with no Wine to set up.
Do I have to keep an SSH session open?
No. HaruHost runs as a service, and you manage the server from the web panel.
