HaruHost

Minecraft: Java Edition server guide

Set up a Minecraft Java server on Windows

Install HaruHost on your Windows PC, create a Minecraft Java server, pick the version and start it. HaruHost installs the right Java, and the Server Settings page sets game mode, difficulty, whitelist, world and memory, with no .bat file or server.properties to edit.

What HaruHost does for you

  • Java: installed for the version you pick, so you don't download a JDK or set paths.
  • The start .bat: not needed. Memory is two numbers on the Server Settings page.
  • server.properties: the Server Settings page sets MOTD, max players, game mode, difficulty, hardcore, PvP, whitelist, world seed and type, and view and simulation distance.
  • Port forwarding: friends join through the Tunnel with no router setup. If you forward instead, HaruHost opens the port on your router and in Windows Firewall once Auto-manage UPnP and Auto-manage Firewall are on.
  • Mods: Modrinth mods and modpacks with Fabric, Forge, NeoForge or Quilt; see mods.
  • Runs without you: the background service keeps the server running when you sign out.

Step by step

  1. Download HaruHost for Windows and sign in.
  2. Choose Add → New game server, pick this PC, then Minecraft Java.
  3. Pick the version, accept the Minecraft EULA and choose Tunnel or Ports on the Connection step.
  4. Create the server, then set the world and game rules on its Server Settings page.
  5. Start the server. If HaruHost lists Java as a missing prerequisite, press Install selected.
  6. Send friends the Server Address from the Details tab.

Questions

How much RAM should a Minecraft server have?

HaruHost starts it with 2 GB. Raise JVM Maximum Memory (MB) on the Server Settings page for more players, mods or a larger view distance.

Can I play on the same PC that runs the server?

Yes. Join with the Local Address from the Details tab when you host on your own address, or the Server Address with the Tunnel.
