Minecraft: Java Edition server guide

Minecraft Java server settings

On Windows, the server's Server Settings page in HaruHost holds server.properties as simple options, plus the server's memory. Set game mode, difficulty, hardcore, PvP, whitelist, seed, world type and view distance, and they apply at the next start. On Linux, server.properties opens on the Files page.

Game

  • Game Mode (Survival, Creative, Adventure, Spectator), Difficulty (Peaceful to Hard), Hardcore Mode and PvP.
  • Allow Flight, Allow Nether, Enable Command Blocks and Spawn Protection.

World

  • World Name, World Seed and World Type (Normal, Flat, Large Biomes, Amplified). A new world name creates a new world.
  • View Distance and Simulation Distance: 10 chunks each by default. Lower them if the server lags.

Server

  • MOTD and Max Players, 20 by default.
  • Enable Whitelist and Online Mode; see whitelist and private server.
  • JVM Minimum Memory (MB) and JVM Maximum Memory (MB): 2048 each by default.
  • Resource Pack URL and Require Resource Pack.

Questions

How do I change the seed of my Minecraft server?

Set a new World Name and the World Seed on the Server Settings page, then start the server. The seed applies to the new world; the old one stays in its folder.

How do I make a hardcore server?

Turn on Hardcore Mode on the Server Settings page before the world's first start.
