Minecraft: Java Edition server guide

Minecraft Java server versions and updates

Pick the Minecraft version when you create the server in HaruHost, and the server stays on it. When you want to update, an automation can follow every update or only patch releases, so 1.21.3 moves to 1.21.11 but never jumps to a new major version.

Choosing a version

Pick the version from the list when you create the server. HaruHost installs the Java that version needs, so older versions run as easily as the newest.

Updating on your terms

  • Any update: follow every new release.
  • Patch release: stay within the version line, for example 1.21.3 to 1.21.11, so a modded server stays on its version line.

Add a backup step before the update in the same automation, so a world is never updated without a copy.

Questions

Can I downgrade a Minecraft world?

Minecraft doesn't support opening a world in an older version. Restore the backup made before the update instead.
