Make a private Valheim server

Set a Server Password so only friends who know it can join, and turn off Public Server to keep the server out of Valheim's community list. Friends still join with Add server and the address from the Details tab.

On the Auto Config page

Server Password: asked for when a player joins.
Public Server: off keeps the server out of the in-game list; friends join by address.

Keep people out

Ban anyone who shouldn't be there. The ban is on their account, so a new character doesn't get around it.

Joining a private server

Friends choose Join Game → Add server and enter the Server Address from the Details tab, then the password. See how friends join.

Does Valheim have a whitelist?

Valheim can limit a server to listed players, but a password plus bans covers most private servers, and HaruHost's Players page bans and unbans in one click.
