Valheim server guide

Valheim server ports

With the HaruHost Tunnel you don't forward anything, even behind CGNAT; friends join with the Server Address from the Details tab. HaruHost gives every server its own ports, so several worlds run side by side. To host on your own address, forward the game port and the one after it over UDP (2456 and 2457 by default).

Nothing to forward with the Tunnel

  1. Choose Tunnel on the Connection step when you create the server. For an existing server, turn the Tunnel on from its Details tab.
  2. Pick the region closest to your players.
  3. Start the server and send friends the Server Address; see how friends join.

No router or firewall settings to change. On Linux, the Tunnel needs HaruHost running as a service, as the one-command install sets it up.

Ports are handled for you

HaruHost gives every server its own pair of ports, with the Tunnel or without it, so two servers never clash. The Details tab lists them under Ports In Use.

Hosting on your own address

  • The ports: the game port, UDP 2456 by default, and the one after it, UDP 2457.
  • On Windows: turn on Auto-manage UPnP and Auto-manage Firewall and HaruHost opens the ports on your router and in Windows Firewall when the server starts. Or forward your port range once; HaruHost shows the rule under Devices → Manage device → Network Settings.
  • On a VPS: open your port range for UDP in the provider's firewall; HaruHost shows it under Devices → Manage device → Network Settings.

Questions

What ports does a Valheim server use?

Two UDP ports, 2456 and 2457 by default. HaruHost gives each server its own pair; with the Tunnel none needs forwarding.

Do I need to forward ports for crossplay?

Not with the Tunnel. On your own address, forward the same two UDP ports.
