HaruHost

Valheim server guide

Set up a Valheim dedicated server on Linux

Run one command on your Ubuntu server or VPS, sign in with the QR code, then create the Valheim server from the web panel. HaruHost sets up Docker, downloads the server and runs it as a service that starts with the machine.

Install HaruHost

On Ubuntu (x86-64), run:

curl -fsSL https://haruhost.com/install.sh | sudo bash

HaruHost installs as a service. Sign in with the QR code it shows in your SSH session, then open the web panel from any browser.

What HaruHost does for you

  • Docker: on Ubuntu, HaruHost installs and sets up Docker with one click when you create your first server.
  • SteamCMD and libraries: not needed. HaruHost downloads the Valheim dedicated server and everything it needs to run.
  • systemd and screen: not needed. HaruHost runs as a service and keeps the server running without an open SSH session.
  • Getting friends in: the Tunnel works on Linux too, or every server gets its ports from your port range.
  • Settings: the server's Manual Config page sets the server name, world, password and public listing, and its editor changes everything else from the browser.
  • Players and chat: who is online, admin, kick and ban, chat logs and Discord chat work on Linux as on Windows.

Step by step

  1. Run the install command and sign in.
  2. In the web panel, choose Add → New game server, pick your Linux server, then Valheim.
  3. On the Connection step, choose Tunnel, or Ports to use the server's own address.
  4. Create the server. If Docker isn't installed yet, HaruHost asks first; press Install, then Create Server.
  5. Set the name, world and password on the server's Manual Config page.
  6. Start the server and send friends the Server Address and password from the Details tab.

Crossplay and world modifiers

Add Valheim's own options to the server's start line in the Manual Config editor: -crossplay for crossplay, or for example -preset hard for a world modifier preset. They apply at the next start.

Open the ports

With Ports, open your port range for UDP in your VPS provider's firewall. With the Tunnel, nothing needs to be opened.

Questions

Does HaruHost need Docker on Linux?

Yes, and on Ubuntu HaruHost installs and sets it up for you. On other distributions, install Docker Engine first.

Do I have to keep an SSH session open?

No. HaruHost runs as a service, and you manage the server from the web panel.

Can I run several Valheim worlds on one VPS?

Yes. Each server gets its own ports from your port range, so they run side by side.
