From the server list
- Copy the Lobby Name from the server's Details tab in HaruHost. New servers are named HaruHost The Forest and a number until you change it.
- In The Forest, open the game's server list and search that name.
- Join, and enter the server's password if it has one.
Without port forwarding
When HaruHost runs as a service on Linux, as the one-command install sets it up, choose Tunnel on the Connection step when you create the server, or turn it on from an existing server's Details tab. The server shows in the list at the Tunnel's public address, and friends join it there with no router setup, even behind CGNAT, Starlink or mobile internet. See The Forest on Linux.
Hosting on your own address
On Windows or a VPS with Ports, the list needs the server's ports to be reachable from the internet. On Windows, turn on Auto-manage UPnP and Auto-manage Firewall and HaruHost opens them on your router and in Windows Firewall when the server starts. On a VPS, open your port range for UDP in the provider's firewall.
Not in the list?
- Search the exact Lobby Name, not the Server Name, which is only HaruHost's label for the server.
- Check that the server shows as online in HaruHost.
- On a tunneled Linux server, keep
serverIPin Server.cfg as HaruHost set it. An address typed into the file keeps the server out of the list. - With Ports, check that the ports are open, or use the Tunnel on Linux.
Questions
Where do I find the Lobby Name?
On the server's Details tab in HaruHost, above the Server Address. It is the name players see and search in the server list.
Can I host The Forest behind CGNAT?
Yes, with the Tunnel when HaruHost runs as a service on Linux. Players connect to the relay's address, so CGNAT and your router don't matter.
