Set up a DayZ dedicated server on Linux

Install HaruHost

On Ubuntu (x86-64), run:

curl -fsSL https://haruhost.com/install.sh | sudo bash

HaruHost installs as a service. Sign in with the QR code it shows in your SSH session, then open the web panel from any browser.

What HaruHost does for you

• SteamCMD: not needed. HaruHost downloads and updates the DayZ server with a Steam account you save once in the wizard.
• Docker: on Ubuntu, HaruHost installs and sets up Docker with one click when you create your first server.
• systemd and screen: not needed. HaruHost runs as a service and keeps the server running without an open SSH session.
• Settings: Manual Config opens serverDZ.cfg, beserver_x64.cfg and the start file in the browser, so every setting can be changed there.
• Backups: the world is kept with the server's saves, so every backup includes it, on demand or from an automation.
• BattlEye RCon console: send admin commands from the app or any browser, with no separate BattlEye RCon tool. Automations can send them for you.
• Players: the Players page lists everyone who joined, with playtime, sessions and last seen, and kicks and bans players.

Step by step

1. Run the install command and sign in.
2. In the web panel, choose Add → New game server, pick your Linux server, then DayZ.
3. On the Steam Account step, pick or add the Steam account HaruHost downloads the server with.
4. On the Connection step, choose Ports to use the server's own address, or Tunnel.
5. Create the server. If Docker isn't installed yet, HaruHost asks first; press Install, then Create Server.
6. In Manual Config, open serverDZ.cfg to set the server's password and the map in template (Chernarus by default), then start the server.

Open the ports

With Ports, open your port range for UDP in your VPS provider's firewall; HaruHost shows it under Devices → Manage device → Network Settings.

The Tunnel

When HaruHost runs as a service on Linux, a tunneled DayZ server appears in the Steam server list at its tunnel address.
