When you create the server
- After picking the Minecraft version, choose a Mod Loader, or Use No Mod Runtime for plain Minecraft.
- On Mods and Mod Packs, pick Modrinth mods or a modpack for that loader and version.
- Create the server; the mods are installed with it.
On an existing server
- Open the server's Mods and Plugins page and choose the Active Mod Loader, or Paper or Purpur for plugins.
- Press Add Mod or Add Mod Pack and search Modrinth. Each result shows whether it is needed on the server, on the player's side, or both.
- Restart the server to load them.
HaruHost warns when a mod is built for another Minecraft version, so a mismatch shows before the server crashes.
From Discord
The Discord bot adds and removes mods and modpacks, so admins change the mod list without opening the app.
Questions
Do players need the same mods?
For content mods, yes; for server-only mods such as performance mods, no. Each Modrinth result in HaruHost shows whether the player's side needs it.
Which loader should I pick?
The one the mods you want are built for. Modrinth lists the loaders each mod supports, and HaruHost filters by your server's loader.
Does HaruHost install client-only mods on the server?
No. Mods that Modrinth lists as client-only, such as minimaps and shaders, are left out of the server so they can't crash it, and the Mods page marks them so you know players install them in their own game.
Can I run Paper or Purpur with plugins?
Yes. Choose Paper or Purpur instead of a mod loader. HaruHost downloads the server for your Minecraft version from PaperMC or Purpur, moves to the newest build at each start, and installs the plugins you pick from Modrinth or Hangar, with the plugins they require, into the plugins folder. Removing a plugin never deletes its settings.
Which Minecraft version does a modpack need?
The server's. Choose a pack that has a version for your Minecraft version and loader; HaruHost installs the pack's mods and settings and the loader release it was made for, and tells you if the pack does not fit.
